Profile Searchability

I have a Dolphin site used for collaboration between policy professionals. I'm very discouraged at the fact that it seems to clearly directed for dating purposes, etc. I want to have someone go in and alter the searchability such that a user can search for all experts on terrorism or everyone from a particular agency/company. I don't want age, gender, 'what you're looking for', etc. to be part of that. I also want to remove age and related things from profiles.

Also on the profile, I would like a drop down box for expertise, which would include about 7-8 options of expertise, so that any user can choose as many as may apply.

On orca forums, I also want to be able to upload .pdf and word documents into the ORCA discussion folders. If this means I have to acquire a different discussion forum system, fine, but what I need all of that worked out.

All of this needs to be done quickly, seemlessly, and inexpensively for a nonprofit organization on the move.
